About this grant / loan

Benefit

If you are studying part-time at the University of Plymouth, you can borrow money from the UK government to pay your tuition fees. This is a tuition fee loan, which you will repay later. The loan covers your tuition fees, so you do not have to pay anything initially. You will only start repaying the loan once your income exceeds a set income threshold. Some students who are continuing their studies and come from lower-income households may instead be eligible for a tuition fee grant and a study grant – money that you will never have to repay.

Eligibility

  • University: You are studying at the University of Plymouth in the UK.
  • Study mode: You are enrolled on a part-time degree programme.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Nationality: You are a student from the United Kingdom (UK) who is eligible for student finance from the UK Government.
  • Grant instead of loan: If you are already studying part-time and your household income is below the specified threshold, you can apply for a grant towards tuition fees and course fees instead of a loan.

New part-time students receive support with their tuition fees only; they do not receive any allowance towards their living costs.

How to apply

You apply for the loan to cover your tuition fees and any grants through the UK’s ‘Student Finance’ service, not through the university. The university’s student finance team can help you work out which options are available to you.
