What you get

You will receive your full tuition fees paid for a part-time online Master’s programme at the University of Edinburgh. The funding covers the entire standard duration of the programme, which is usually 2 to 3 years. The fees for the online Master’s programme in Edinburgh are approximately 6,400 to 10,500 euros per year (around £5,500 to £9,000), bringing the total value to several thousand euros. You will study entirely online from home, so you do not need to move to Scotland. The University of Edinburgh awards 20 of these scholarships worldwide each year. Living costs, travel expenses and fees for courses outside your degree programme are not covered.

Who can apply

• Where you're from: You are a citizen and resident of one of the 82+ low-income countries on the Edinburgh list. These include, for example, Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Vietnam, Egypt and Ukraine, as well as many other countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
• Admission first: You have already been offered a place on an eligible degree programme in Edinburgh, or you intend to accept such an offer.
• Type of programme: The programme must be a part-time online Master’s programme at standard Master’s level (SCQF level 11, the UK standard level for a Master’s degree). Higher research degrees, such as the Master of Surgery, are not eligible.
• Field of study: Any subject is suitable, provided it is offered as a part-time online Master’s programme.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• First Master's preferred: If you have not yet obtained a Master’s degree, you will be given preferential consideration. This is an advantage, not a mandatory requirement.

How to apply

First, apply for admission to your chosen degree programme. As soon as you have received a student registration number from the University of Edinburgh, log in to the MyEd portal and submit the scholarship application form. The form asks you to briefly explain why you have chosen this degree programme, how it will benefit your career, and how you intend to contribute to your local community or country. The most recent application deadlines were in early to mid-June, and results are usually announced in mid-July.

How realistic are your chances?

Each year, only 20 scholarships are awarded across dozens of eligible countries, so competition is fierce and strong academic performance is crucial. Your chances are improved if you have not yet completed a Master’s degree, as these applicants are given preferential treatment. A clearly written, personal statement of purpose outlining your goals is also an advantage. If you apply for your place early, you’ll have plenty of time to prepare a well-thought-out application.
