About this award / prize
The Dermot Keogh Prize in Irish History
You will receive a one-off cash prize of 100 EUR from University College Cork (UCC). The amount may vary slightly from year to year, as it comes from an investment fund and depends on the fund’s performance. The prize is awarded to the third-year history student who produces the best research paper in one of two areas of Irish history. It is named after Professor Dermot Keogh, who taught history at UCC for 30 years.
Who can apply
- University: You’re studying history at UCC.
- Year of study: You are in your third year of a Bachelor's degree (Third Arts).
- Your work: You hand in a final-year research project or long essay as part of your course. The best one wins.
- Topic: Your work focuses either on the history of Ireland’s foreign relations and diplomacy or on the history of relations between the Church and the State in Ireland.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are currently enrolled at UCC.
How to apply
There is no separate application. Staff choose the winner from the research work students submit during their course. The prize is handed out each year at the School of History's annual prize-giving ceremony at UCC.
