University College Cork - The Niall J. Ware Memorial Prize

The Niall J. Ware Memorial Prize

You will receive a one-off cash prize of around 200 EUR, as well as a printed certificate on parchment. The amount comes from an endowment fund (money that has been invested so that the annual returns can be paid out), so the sum may vary slightly from year to year. University College Cork (UCC) awards this prize in memory of Niall J. Ware, who served as Professor of Spanish there from 1964 to 1978.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are studying for a BA (Hons) at UCC and are taking Spanish as part of your final examination.
• Result: You achieved a ‘First Class Honours’ grade in Spanish and are top of your year in this subject.
• First attempt: You will pass your final examination, as well as all your previous university examinations, at the first attempt and within the minimum time allowed.
• Time at UCC: You have been a UCC student for the two years directly before your final degree exam.
• Language: Spanish is not your first language.
• Standard reached: The UCC Academic Council agrees that your performance is of a sufficiently high standard. If this is not the case, the prize will not be awarded this year.

How to apply

You do not need to apply. The prize is automatically awarded to the top Spanish student in the final examination of the BA (Hons) degree programme, based on your results.
