University of Galway - Excellence Scholarships

University of Galway Excellence Scholarship

As a reward for outstanding examination results, you will receive a one-off 1,500 EUR when you commence your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Galway (formerly the National University of Ireland, Galway). The university awards 40 of these scholarships each year: 10 at each of its four colleges (Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies; Natural Sciences and Engineering; Business, Politics and Law; and Medicine and Health Sciences). You may combine this scholarship with other university or external scholarships.

Who can apply

• Study phase: You are starting your first year of a full-time Bachelor’s degree at the University of Galway.
• Field of study: Any subject. The 40 places are split evenly across the four colleges.
• Grades: You are among the students with the highest CAO points in your college, based on your Leaving Certificate or A-level results from a single exam year. For medicine, your HPAT score counts too.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You do not need to apply. Places are allocated automatically. Once you have enrolled, the university compares the examination results of new students across the various departments and contacts those with the best marks.

How realistic are your chances?

The university awards 40 scholarships each year, of which 10 are allocated to each faculty. Within each faculty, these scholarships are awarded to the students with the highest admission marks; you must therefore be amongst the best of your fellow students in your first year of study.
