Matthew O'Donnell Scholarships

You will receive an annual scholarship to undertake postgraduate studies in philosophy or theology at the Pontifical University of St Patrick in Maynooth (formerly St Patrick’s College, Maynooth). There are two separate scholarships: 2,600 EUR per year for philosophy and 3,200 EUR per year for theology. You will initially receive the scholarship for one year. You may renew it year on year during your studies, provided you reapply. The funding is provided by the Maynooth Scholastic Trust. The Trust awards the scholarship in memory of Monsignor Matthew O’Donnell, a former professor and president of the college.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are a postgraduate student.
• Field of study: You are studying philosophy (for the 2,600 EUR prize) or theology (for the 3,200 EUR prize).
• University: You are studying at the Pontifical University of St Patrick in Maynooth, Ireland. You may already be enrolled or just starting your degree.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Other funding: Your chances are better if you are not already receiving any other scholarship or financial support for your studies.

How to apply

You cannot apply on your own initiative. You can only apply once the university has invited you to do so. Eligible students will receive an email containing an ‘invitation to apply’. If you are already studying there, the university will contact you by the end of June. If you are just starting, it will contact you before the start of the second semester. Decisions on places are made in three rounds each year: around the end of June, at the start of the academic year and at the start of the second semester.
