About this scholarship

What you get

You receive a yearly award to help cover the cost of your first degree at University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland. The exact sum matches a top-tier maintenance grant under the national student grant scheme. If you already hold a Higher Education Grant, the amount is 142 EUR per year. The award runs for 1 year at a time. UCC renews it each year as long as you keep achieving high honours results. UCC funds it and hands out one or more scholarships each year, ranked by merit.

Note: This scholarship is currently suspended. UCC has not announced when it will reopen. The details below describe how it works when applications are open.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You start a full-time first degree at UCC in one of its four colleges: Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Science, Engineering and Food Science; or Medicine and Health.
  • Study phase: This is for your first year, in the term straight after you sit the Leaving Certificate (Ireland's school-leaving exam).
  • Grades: You reach the Entrance Scholarship standard in the Leaving Certificate. Only your six best subjects count, taken at one sitting on the first try.
  • Local roots: You were born in Cork or Limerick (county or city), or one of your parents was.
  • Religion: You are Roman Catholic.
  • Financial need: Without this support, you could not start or continue at university.
  • Age: You are no older than 20 on 1 July of the year you apply.
  • Admission: You meet UCC's minimum entry requirements for a place.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You send the completed Keliher Scholarship application form and your supporting documents to UCC's Scholarships Office by email. UCC scores your Leaving Certificate results with its own system, and selection rests on those results alone. Each award is at the trustees' discretion. Late or incomplete applications are not considered.
