The Dr B. Foley Medal in Microbiology

You receive a gold medal as the top student in Medical Microbiology at University College Cork (UCC). This is an honour prize: there is no money attached. The medal is handed out once a year to the single best-performing student in the subject. Colleagues of Dr Bridget V. Foley created it. She was a Cork medical microbiologist who taught at UCC for over 30 years. UCC funds the medal from a permanent endowment it manages.

Who can apply

• University: You are currently registered as a student at UCC.
• Field of study: You study Medical Microbiology within medicine.
• Study stage: You are in Year 1 or 2 of Graduate Entry to Medicine, or in Year 2 or 3 of Direct Entry to Medicine.
• Results: You have the best combined exam marks in Medical Microbiology that year.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

There is no application. The medal goes automatically each year to the student with the highest overall marks in Medical Microbiology.
