University of Limerick - Edith and Leslie Downer Entrance Scholarship

Edith and Leslie Downer Entrance Scholarship

You will receive 1,000 EUR for one year if you enrol on a nursing degree programme at the University of Limerick and achieve the highest school-leaving grades amongst eligible students. Only one scholarship is awarded per academic cycle. The scholarship was established by Professor Roger Downer, the university’s former president, in memory of his parents, and is administered by the UL Foundation.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are starting one of three degree programmes in nursing at the University of Limerick: BSc Nursing (General), BSc Nursing (Mental Health) or BSc Nursing (Intellectual Disability).
• Study phase: You are a first-year student who has just started your degree at university.
• Enrolment: You study full time.
• Grades: Of all the students on these three degree programmes, you have achieved the highest marks in the ‘Leaving Certificate’ (the Irish school-leaving qualification). Only your academic performance counts; your financial situation is not taken into account.
• Nationality and residence: You are an Irish citizen, have spent most of your life in Ireland, went to school there and live there permanently.

How to apply

There is no separate application. The scholarship goes automatically to the eligible first-year student with the highest Leaving Certificate points.
