About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a sports scholarship (financial support for your studies) amounting to 750 EUR per year, which will be paid in two instalments spread over the academic year. You may receive this for up to two consecutive years, provided you maintain satisfactory academic performance and continue to play an active role in your UCC GAA club. University College Cork (UCC) and the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) award this scholarship to students who combine serious sporting commitment with their studies.

Who can apply

  • University: You are a full-time student at University College Cork or are applying to study there and meet the standard entry requirements.
  • GAA membership: You are a member of the GAA.
  • Your club: You are a member of a GAA club in one of the six counties of Munster (Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Tipperary or Waterford), either as a player or in an administrative role.
  • Sporting level: You perform at a very high level in your sport.
  • UCC GAA club: You are actively involved in your UCC GAA club – whether as a player, coach, in administration or in public relations.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • No double funding: You cannot receive two scholarships at the same time. If you are already receiving another GAA or university scholarship, you may not be eligible for this one.

How to apply

First, apply to UCC as usual via the Central Application Office (CAO). Then complete the online form for the Munster Council GAA Scholarship. For 2025/26, the deadline was 10 October; late applications will not be considered. A panel of at least three people, including two representatives appointed by the Munster Council GAA, will assess the applications. The final decision will be made by UCC and the Munster Council.
