About this award / prize

Benefit

For an outstanding dissertation on the luxury and fashion market, with a focus on jewellery and watches, you will receive a one-off prize of 3,000 EUR. The prize is awarded by the Comitato Leonardo (Italian Quality Committee) in collaboration with LiuJo Luxury S.p.A., a brand created by the fashion house Liu Jo and the jewellery and watch manufacturer Nardelli Luxury. The winners will be honoured at the ‘Premi Leonardo’ ceremony at the Quirinale, the official residence of the Italian President, in the presence of the President.

Eligibility

  • Who you are: You are a student close to finishing, a recent graduate, or a young professional working in fashion.
  • Your thesis topic: You have written research papers on the luxury and fashion market, with a particular focus on jewellery and watches. Your work examines how buyers of ‘affordable luxury’ and fast fashion shop, what they want, and how companies respond to this through marketing and communication strategies.
  • Type of research: Your work must be based on genuine field research and include models that you can apply in practice. Purely theoretical or lecture-style papers will not be accepted.
  • Field of study: Business Administration, Marketing or Economics with a specialisation in fashion.
  • Nationality: Both Italian and international candidates are welcome to apply.

How to apply

Please send a signed entry form, your dissertation and a brief summary of it to the Comitato Leonardo office in Rome. The closing date for entries is 16 November. A panel comprising members of the Comitato Leonardo Executive Committee and senior management from LiuJo Luxury will select the winner; their decision is final.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize has very narrow criteria. It recognises a very specific type of applied research in the jewellery and watchmaking sector, meaning that only a few dissertations meet the requirements and the field is small. If your work involves genuine field research with applicable models relating specifically to this topic, your chances are good. Please note that the prize was not listed in the most recent issues of ‘Comitato Leonardo’; you should therefore check whether it is currently open for entries before investing any time.
