In addition to your regular ERSU-Messina scholarship (Borsa di studio), you will receive a sum of one-off cash bonus if you complete your degree within the standard period of study. The info box lists approximately 160 EUR. The exact amount varies each year, as the award is funded from the remaining funds after all scholarship recipients have been fully funded. ERSU Messina is the regional authority responsible for the right to higher education in Messina, Italy. It allocates up to 75,000 EUR annually for these bonuses and distributes this amount amongst the recipients. In some years, no bonus is paid out at all, as the budget was exhausted before all scholarships had been fully covered. You should therefore regard this bonus as a reward rather than a guarantee.

Who can apply

• Existing grant: You already received an ERSU-Messina scholarship during the previous academic year. You cannot apply without this scholarship.
• Graduation on time: You have completed your degree within the standard period of study. This includes a three-year Bachelor’s degree programme (laurea triennale), a two-year Master’s degree programme (laurea magistrale) or a five- or six-year degree programme in a single cycle, such as medicine or law.
• University: You are studying at an institution that is part of ERSU Messina, such as the University of Messina or the Corelli Conservatoire in Messina.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Financial need: This criterion was already met when your scholarship was awarded, based on your family income (ISEE up to 22,500 EUR).

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the ERSU-Messina student portal between 1 and 30 April. There will be no interview. Winners will be selected on the basis of their verified graduation dates, and the final ranking list will be published in June.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria are quite strict. Applicants must already have been awarded an ERSU-Messina scholarship and must complete their degree within the stipulated timeframe, which means the pool of applicants is small. However, the prize itself is not guaranteed. It is only paid out if funds remain after all scholarships have been awarded, and in some years this has not been the case. If you meet the criteria, do apply, but regard the bonus more as a potential extra rather than something you can count on.
