About this grant / loan

What the Extraordinary Contribution gives you

You will receive a one-off payment of 2,000 EUR if you find yourself in financial difficulty due to a serious, unforeseen event during the academic year. The funds come from ARDSU Basilicata, the regional body responsible for the right to higher education in the Italian region of Basilicata. It is intended to help students who, due to a crisis beyond their control – such as a health problem, a parent losing their job or the death of a parent – have been unable to meet the eligibility criteria for the standard study grant.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at a university or higher education institution in the Basilicata region, for example at the University of Basilicata in Potenza.
  • Financial need: You are in genuine financial hardship. Your eligibility depends on your ISEE, the official Italian measure of your household’s income and assets.
  • A serious event: During the course of the year, you experienced an unexpected event, such as an illness, the loss of a family member’s job or the death of a parent. As a result, you were no longer able to meet the usual eligibility criteria for a scholarship.
  • Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they are studying in Basilicata.

How to apply

Register on the ARDSU Basilicata online portal and submit your application there. The deadline is 27 March. The award of grants is based on your ISEE and the nature of the event that affected you.

How realistic are your chances?

This support is subject to strict conditions. You must be studying in the Basilicata region, be in genuine financial hardship and have experienced a specific serious event. The group of eligible applicants is therefore small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of both your financial need and the event in question, your chances are good. The funding body has also announced that it will increase the funding if the number of applications exceeds the available funds.
