About this grant / loan

What the Family Bonus gives you

You will receive a reduction in your annual tuition fees of Sapienza University of Rome if a close family member is studying there at the same time. The amount of the discount depends on your ISEE, an official Italian income certificate for higher education. You can obtain this from a tax advice centre (CAF) or the National Social Security Institute (INPS):

  • ISEE up to 40,000 EUR: 15% off your annual tuition fees.
  • ISEE above 40,000 EUR: 8% off your annual tuition fees.

Every eligible family member is entitled to the discount. This may continue in subsequent years, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. In addition, there is a regional fee of 140 EUR and a stamp duty of 16 EUR.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at ‘La Sapienza’ University in Rome for the current academic year.
  • Family link: At least one of your brothers, sisters, parents or children is also enrolled at Sapienza and has paid the first instalment of their tuition fees by the deadline.
  • Same household: You and this family member belong to the same household and have the same ISEE value on the single-family declaration (DSU).
  • On track: You are within the standard duration of study for your degree programme. Students who have exceeded this period (‘fuori corso’) are not eligible to take part.
  • Study grades: Students in the first year of a Bachelor’s degree programme, in the first year of a two-year Master’s degree programme, and those changing career paths do not need to provide proof of academic achievement. From the second year onwards, a minimum of 10 CFU (university credits) is required; from the third year onwards, a minimum of 25 CFU must have been earned in the previous year.
  • Full time: You are studying full-time, not part-time.
  • Field and nationality: Open to all disciplines and all nationalities.

How to apply

No separate application or interview is required. The university’s online student portal, ‘Infostud’, calculates the discount automatically as soon as all eligible family members have paid their first instalment of tuition fees. The discount will then be applied to your second instalment.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not an award granted as part of a competition. It is an automatic fee reduction available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria. The only real requirement is that a family member is enrolled at Sapienza, lives in the same household and has the same ISEE score. If this applies to you and you complete your degree programme within the standard duration of study and meet the requirements regarding the number of credits earned, you are entitled to the reduction.
