About this scholarship

ESU Molise study grant

You will receive up to 7,072 EUR per academic year to study in the Italian region of Molise. The exact amount depends on how far you live from your university: around 2,850 EUR if you live within 15 km, around 4,133 EUR if you live between 15 and 50 km away, and the full amount of 7,072 EUR if you live more than 50 km away and rent accommodation near your university. Additional allowances may increase the amount: +20% for women studying STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), +40% for students with a disability rating of 66% or higher, and +15% for those on a very low income. You will also receive discounted meals in the canteen and a refund of the regional tuition fee. If you go abroad as part of an exchange programme such as Erasmus, you can add 600 EUR per month for up to 10 months. The grant is provided by ESU Molise, the public body that administers student financial support for the Molise region.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at a university or other higher education institution in the Molise region, such as the University of Molise, the Catholic University of Campobasso, the School for Language Teachers or the ‘Lorenzo Perosi’ Conservatoire of Music.
  • Degree level: Bachelor’s, Master’s, single-cycle Master’s degree (5 to 6 years), PhD or specialisation programme. This must be your first degree at this level.
  • Field of study: Any subject, with the exception of degree programmes specialising in medicine and law.
  • Enrolment: You are studying full-time, not part-time.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Both Italian and international students are welcome, including EU citizens, refugees, stateless persons and asylum seekers.
  • Financial need: Your family income indicator (ISEE) is no more than 19,564 EUR and your family asset indicator (ISPE) is no more than 42,530 EUR. Higher thresholds apply if you have a disability of 66% or more.
  • Grades: From the second year of your degree onwards, you must have earned a certain number of ECTS credits (for example, 25 by the second year of your Bachelor’s degree). For first-year students, this will be checked retrospectively.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the ESU-Molise portal. Please apply for your ISEE income certificate beforehand. Students in higher semesters must enclose proof of the exams they have passed. The deadline is 25 September 2025. International students whose documents were issued abroad have until 14 November 2025 to submit them.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is restricted to a small Italian region and subject to clear income thresholds, meaning that the group of eligible students is small from the outset. If you are studying in Molise, meet the ISEE and ISPE thresholds and maintain your academic performance, your prospects are good. Please note that funds may run out: students who meet all the eligibility criteria but do not receive the grant will still be entitled to the tax refund and the canteen allowance.
