University of Florence (Florence/Italy) - Scholarship for travel/study in Colombia

What the scholarship gives you

You will receive a travel grant of up to 467 EUR for a two-week study programme and field research at the Universidad de Boyacá in Sogamoso, Colombia. This money will partially cover your travel, food and accommodation costs. The stay forms part of a collaborative project on architecture in Sogamoso. Topics include the removal of architectural barriers through new technologies, bioclimatic design for tropical climates, urban wayfinding, and technological solutions to climate change. You can have this work recognised for up to 12 ECTS credits, provided your faculty approves this before your departure. The grant is provided by the Institute of Architecture (DIDA) at the University of Florence.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Florence.
• Level: You are studying for a bachelor’s, master’s, PhD or second-cycle master’s degree there.
• Field: You are studying architecture and have already gained some initial academic experience with the topics covered in the seminar, such as urban planning.
• Language: You can show that you speak English. In the early rounds, Spanish counts too.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at a university in Florence.

How to apply

Please email your application as a single PDF file to the DIDA department, including a portfolio or CV. The application deadline is 9 June. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief online interview via Zoom.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. Only architecture students from a specific university who are willing to travel to Colombia for two weeks are eligible to apply, and in the last round only one place was awarded. As the pool of eligible applicants is small, your chances are good if you clearly meet the subject area and academic standards and can demonstrate relevant project experience. A compelling, well-documented portfolio will be decisive for success in the interview.
