What you get

You will receive up to 3,500 EUR per year to study at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy (with campuses in Milan, Piacenza and Rome). The full amount of 3,500 EUR applies if you are accepted into one of the university’s on-campus halls of residence (Collegi in Campus). Otherwise, you will receive 2,500 EUR per year. You can renew the scholarship each year for the duration of your degree programme. Each year, 100 scholarships are awarded across two application categories. The programme is run by the Istituto Giuseppe Toniolo in collaboration with the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Tuition fees are not covered by the scholarship. If you are already exempt from tuition fees, the payment is reduced to 1,000 EUR.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolling at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy for the coming academic year.
• Degree level: Two options. Select ‘START’ if you are leaving school and starting your first Bachelor’s degree or single-cycle degree. Select ‘RUN’ if you hold a Bachelor’s degree (including from other universities) and are starting a Master’s degree, or if, as a student at the Cattolica, you are transferring to the 4th year of a single-cycle degree programme.
• Field of study: Open to all degree programmes. Only for Medicine and Surgery is there a separate admissions route based on the entrance examination.
• Age: To take part in START, you must have been born on or after 1 January 2003. To take part in RUN, you must have been born on or after 1 January 2000.
• Prior degree: To be eligible for the START programme, you must not yet have a degree. To be eligible for the RUN programme, you must not yet have a Master’s degree.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Selection basis: Based solely on academic achievement. There is no income requirement. Selection is based on academic and extracurricular achievements.

How to apply

You can register free of charge on the programme’s website. The closing date for applications is 20 April at 12:00 midday. Selection is based on a written examination, which will take place entirely online at the end of April: a multiple-choice test and an essay. Your academic performance to date, as well as any additional achievements (languages, voluntary work, sport, art), will also be taken into account. The ranking list will be published towards the end of June.

How realistic are your chances?

As 100 scholarships are awarded each year and there is no income limit, the pool of applicants is large, meaning that the written examination is the deciding factor. Good marks are an advantage, but the majority of the marks are awarded for the online test and the essay. Good preparation counts for more than a perfect school report. If you meet the age and qualification requirements and perform well on the day of the exam, your prospects are good.
