About this scholarship

What the National Scholarship Programme gave you

This funding scheme run by the British Government was implemented at the University of Worcester in England. It provided low-income first-year students with up to 3,000 GBP (about 1,150 EUR). The funding consisted of two parts: a waiver of tuition fees amounting to 2,000 GBP and 1,000 GBP in cash, paid out over the course of the year (250 GBP in December, 250 GBP in February and 500 GBP in May). Students from middle-income households received a smaller grant: only a tuition fee waiver amounting to 1,000 GBP. Students from the EU were eligible for the tuition fee waiver but did not receive any cash payment.

Who could apply

  • Level: You were a first-year undergraduate. Master’s students and students transferring from another university were not eligible.
  • Where you studied: The University of Worcester, England.
  • Nationality: Students from the UK and the EU. Students from the EU were granted a fee waiver only.
  • Home region: They received financial support from ‘Student Finance England’ and not from the schemes in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
  • Financial need: Full grant if your household income was up to 25,000 GBP; partial grant up to 42,620 GBP.
  • Course: The tuition fees for your degree programme amounted to at least 6,000 GBP per year, and you studied at a level of at least 25%.
  • No other funding: Your fees were not covered by the NHS, a teacher training organisation or a sponsor.

How you applied

No separate application was required when you were admitted. After you started your degree in October, the university sent you an application form by email to your university email address. First, you had to complete a means-tested application with ‘Student Finance England’ and agree that your income details could be passed on to the university.
