About this scholarship

Broadening Horizons Travel Bursary

You will receive a one-off grant of approximately 600 EUR (£500) for a study trip abroad. This covers, on a one-off basis, travel costs, an internship or another experience abroad. Ulster University funds this grant from its student fund, which is supported by donations from alumni and staff. Previous grant recipients have used the grant for voluntary work in Sri Lanka, a research conference in Germany and fieldwork in the field of environmental sciences.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled as a student at Ulster University in the United Kingdom.
  • Degree or level: You are a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD student.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Where you go: Your trip is taking place abroad and is related to your studies, for example as part of a conference, an internship or field research.
  • Nationality: Any nationality, as long as you are studying at Ulster University.

How realistic are your chances?

Only students at Ulster University who are planning to travel abroad are eligible to apply, so you will need to stand out from a small group of applicants. If you can demonstrate a clear, meaningful project abroad that ties in with your studies, your chances are good. As the funds come from donations, a well-reasoned explanation of how the trip will benefit your studies is crucial.
