HYMS Bursary

You will receive about 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP) per year for each year of your medical degree, up to a maximum of five years. Hull York Medical School (HYMS) pays this amount to help with your living costs. If you live in university-managed accommodation, the amount will be applied as a discount on your rent. If you find your own accommodation, you will receive the amount as a cash payment. HYMS is jointly operated by the University of York and the University of Hull.

Who can apply

• Course: You are studying on the ‘MB BS Medicine’ programme at Hull York Medical School. Graduates from other degree programmes are also eligible, as are students who take an additional year during their medical studies to complete a separate degree (‘intercalation’).
• Where you study: You’re studying in the UK.
• Fee status: You are considered a UK (domestic) student. EU students residing in the UK may also be eligible, depending on their fee status.
• Financial need: Your household income is less than 35,000 GBP per year.

How to apply

No separate application is required. Your eligibility will be determined automatically on the basis of the income details provided in your application for student finance, and the means test will be carried out as part of this process.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is not a scholarship awarded through a selection process. If you are a home student studying medicine at HYMS and your household income is below 35,000 GBP, you will receive this funding. There is no selection process and no additional documents need to be submitted – the only requirement is that you meet the income threshold. Please ensure that your application to Student Finance is completed fully and correctly, as this triggers the payment.
