UCL Slade School of Fine Art - Worshipful Grocers' Scholarship

What you get

You receive around £2,000 per year (about 2,300 EUR) for the full length of your Fine Art degree at UCL's Slade School of Fine Art in London: three years for the BFA or four years for the BA. Payment continues each year as long as your academic progress stays satisfactory. The scholarship is funded by the Worshipful Company of Grocers, a historic London livery company, and awarded through the Slade.

Who can apply

• Course: You are starting the BFA Fine Art or BA Fine Art undergraduate degree at the Slade School.
• Nationality: You are a UK national.
• Fee status: You pay Home fees, meaning you count as a UK student rather than an international one.
• Grades: The award goes to the strongest candidate on academic merit.
• Timing: Only one scholar is chosen every two academic years. The award comes to the Slade every four years, next in 2025/26.

How to apply

You do not send a separate application. The Slade picks the scholar during its normal admissions process, based on your entrance exams and interview. The Slade Prizes Committee makes the decision. If chosen, you are told by email. UCL may make no award if it finds no suitable candidate.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly: it goes to just one Slade Fine Art student, only in years when the Slade's turn comes around, and only to UK nationals paying Home fees. That makes the eligible group small, but there is exactly one place, and the school can decline to award it. If you clearly meet the criteria and impress at the Slade's entrance exams and interview, you are in genuine contention.
