About this scholarship

Benefit: what you get

The Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) awards tuition fee scholarships to new Master’s students. The scholarships start at EUR 900 and vary depending on the degree programme; the amount is deducted directly from your tuition fees, not from your living costs. For two-year programmes (90 or 120 ECTS), the grant may be extended for a second year, provided you have passed all first-year modules and funding is available. Up to 182 scholarships are available in a single call for applications, spread across five research training groups: Law; Business Administration; Economics and Political Science; Humanities and Communication Studies; and Engineering and Basic Sciences.

Eligibility

  • University: You are starting a Master’s degree at UC for the first time3M.
  • Enrolment: You have applied for a place at university and paid the application fee. You do not need to be enrolled at the time of application.
  • Field of study: All areas are eligible for funding under all the programmes listed in the call for proposals.
  • Nationality: All nationalities are welcome, including students from countries outside the EU.
  • Other funding: You may receive this grant alongside other scholarships, provided that the total amount does not exceed your actual tuition fees. It cannot be combined with a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Education (MEFP).
  • Latin American track: For students from Latin American countries whose home university is a member of the AUIP (a network of Ibero-American universities), there is a separate application procedure (AM04-AUIP). This degree programme covers 50–100% of the tuition fees, as well as an additional study grant of 1,500 euros.

How to apply

Apply online via the UC3M electronic application portal. The main call for applications (AM01) usually begins in December and ends at the end of May; decisions are made in three rounds between February and June, with provisional deadlines falling on 9 April and 25 June. Selection is based solely on the documents submitted – there is no interview. Academic performance accounts for 70–100% of the total score; financial or personal circumstances account for 0–30%, depending on the degree programme.

How realistic are your chances?

With up to 182 scholarships available in the main application round alone, as well as further places in additional application rounds, the number of places available for a single university’s internal programme is considerable. You will be competing exclusively with other new UC3M Master’s students, and not with applicants from other universities. Outstanding academic achievement is the decisive factor; if your results are well above average and you apply early in the application period, your chances are good.
