About this scholarship

Frontenac Programme

You will receive a one-off grant of about 3,870 EUR (6,000 CAD), to be paid in three monthly instalments of 2,000 CAD each. This will cover at least three months (one university semester) of your studies in France. The money is intended to cover your return flight between Québec and France, your local travel and your living costs whilst there. The programme is run by the Fonds de recherche du Québec and funded by the Government of Québec and the French Consulate-General in Québec. Around 40 scholarships are awarded each year. As a scholarship recipient, you can also take part in a separate creative competition (the ‘Prix de la mobilité’), in which an additional sum of 1,000 CAD is awarded to the person who best demonstrates the benefits of their stay abroad.

Who can apply

  • Study level: You are enrolled on or have been admitted to a Master’s programme, and your period of study in France will count towards this Master’s programme.
  • Where you go: You must study in person in France. Online or distance learning will not be recognised, nor will work placements or research stays for which no Master’s credits are awarded.
  • Field of study: All subject areas covered in the FRQ: health, social sciences and humanities, art and literature, natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.
  • Nationality: You are a Canadian citizen or hold permanent resident status in Canada. If you hold both Canadian and French citizenship, you will only be eligible if you have completed all your secondary and higher education in Québec.
  • Residence: You have been living in Québec for at least one year and, as at the cut-off date, hold a valid RAMQ card (Québec health insurance).
  • Timing: Your stay in France must not have ended at the time of application.
  • One-time only: You have not yet received a Frontenac grant.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the FRQnet portal. Please start by creating an account there. The application deadline for the 2026-2027 round is on 12 August 2026 at 16:00. Once the deadline has passed, no further documents can be added. The results will be announced in October 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship has very strict eligibility criteria. You must be a Master’s student resident in Québec, hold a RAMQ card and be travelling to France for an eligible period of study. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small, and only 40 scholarships are awarded each year. The selection process is heavily based on your academic performance, which accounts for half of the total marks, as well as on the value of your stay and your study project. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and have good grades, your chances are good.
