University of Aberdeen - Chris Cadwur James Award for Composition

You get a one-off cash prize of about 235 EUR (GBP 200) for outstanding work in composition, meaning writing your own music. The University of Aberdeen awards it once a year to one student in its Department of Music. It is named after Chris Cadwur James, a composer from Cornwall and former Music lecturer at Aberdeen.

• Subject: You are a student in the Department of Music.
• Level: You can be an undergraduate or a postgraduate. Past winners include both.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Achievement: Your composition work stands out during your studies.

How to apply

You do not apply for this prize yourself. The music teaching staff pick the winner at the exam board, based on the composition work you produce during your course.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one student per year wins this prize, so it is contested. The way to earn it is simply to do standout compositional work in your course.
