What the Sir John Cadman Prize gives you

In recognition of your outstanding academic achievement in your degree in Process Engineering, you will receive a one-off cash prize of about 245 EUR (200 GBP). The prize is awarded by the School of Process Engineering at the University of Birmingham and sponsored by the oil company BP. There are separate prizes for third- and fourth-year students.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at the University of Birmingham in the UK.
• Subject: You’re studying chemical engineering.
• Year of study: You are in your third or fourth (final) year.
• Grades: Your academic performance is the most important criterion for the award.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria for this award are very strict. You must already be enrolled in the third or fourth year of a chemical engineering degree programme at a specific university, which means the pool of eligible applicants is small. Applications are not submitted via the usual channels. The department selects the winners on the basis of academic achievement; in other words, it is your results throughout the year that are taken into account, rather than a polished application. If you are among the top students in your year group, your chances are good.
