Stichting Mia Keulaerds Scholarship

You get your tuition fees paid in full for 36 months, the standard length of a three-year bachelor's degree at Maastricht University. For 2026-2027 that covers the low tuition rate of 2,694 EUR per year. The exact amount can change each academic year. The Scholarship Office pays and manages the fees directly, so you never handle the payment yourself. The scholarship was set up in memory of Mia Keulaerds, a teacher from Heerlen, to give young people from the Parkstad Limburg region a fair chance at university. It does not cover your living costs.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are applying for a bachelor's programme at Maastricht University for 2026-2027 and meet that programme's own admission requirements.
• Field of study: Any bachelor's programme across all six UM faculties, including health and life sciences, psychology, science and engineering, law, arts and social sciences, and business and economics.
• Where you're from: You were born in and still live in one of these Parkstad municipalities: Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Brunssum, Simpelveld, Voerendaal or Beekdaelen.
• Financial need: You are registered with Stichting Leergeld Parkstad, a local body that helps families on low incomes. This registration counts as your proof of need.
• One shot: You can submit only one application, and only for this scholarship.

How to apply

First enrol for your UM bachelor's programme through Studielink, then fill in the scholarship application form and upload your documents. The deadline for the current round is 1 May 2026, and applications reopen on 1 February 2027. The faculty ranks the applications and Stichting Mia Keulaerds makes the final choice. Results are sent out at the end of July 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly. You must have been born in and live in one of seven Parkstad municipalities, be registered with Stichting Leergeld Parkstad, and be admitted to a UM bachelor's programme. That leaves a small eligible group and little competition. If you clearly meet these conditions and put together a focused motivation letter and reference, your prospects are good.
