CVT Fonds B Beurs

You receive up to 3,000 EUR towards a research trip abroad lasting from 2 weeks to 6 months. The money helps cover the cost of doing part of your research overseas, for example field work or a joint project with a foreign university. The award comes from the Dr Catharine van Tussenbroek Fund, set up in 1926 to support the scientific careers of women. The fund pays the last 10% only after you hand in a short final report on your trip.

Who can apply

• Gender: You are a woman.
• Academic level: You already hold a PhD, so this grant is for postdocs (researchers who have finished their doctorate). If you are still working on your doctorate, look at the A Beurs instead.
• Timing after your PhD: You finished your doctorate no more than 5 years ago. This limit is extended for long leave due to illness, parenthood, pregnancy or care duties (up to 5 years extra in total), plus 18 months per child.
• Where you work: You are employed at or affiliated with a Dutch research institution.
• Where you go: You carry out the research abroad, as part of a project run through a Dutch university.
• Purpose: You do real research work, such as field work or a project with a foreign institution. A trip just to attend a conference does not qualify.
• Proof: You attach an invitation, admission or enrolment letter from the foreign host institution, plus two recommendation letters. The host letter is not needed for pure field work without a host.
• One time only: You have not received a B Beurs from the fund before.

How to apply

You submit your application between 1 January and 15 February of the year your trip takes place. The trip must start in that same year. The board announces the results in May.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant targets a narrow group: only women postdocs within 5 years of their PhD, working at a Dutch institution and planning a genuine research trip abroad. That keeps the applicant pool small. If you clearly fit these conditions, have a concrete host or field-work plan and your two recommendation letters ready, your prospects are good. A well-prepared, well-documented application counts most.
