Villanueva de Gállego and Bajo Gállego residents' scholarship

At the University of San Jorge (USJ) in Zaragoza, Spain, you are eligible for a discount on your tuition if you live in Villanueva de Gállego or a municipality in the Bajo Gállego area. The number of scholarships and their respective amounts are not determined in advance. They depend on how many people meet the eligibility criteria, as well as on the budget for the year in question. Applications are ranked according to family income and average mark, and scholarships are awarded until the budget has been exhausted. Two rules affect the amount of the grant. Degree programmes that are partly delivered online, as well as Master’s programmes at the university, are funded at 25% of the rate applicable to full-time Bachelor’s programmes. Those who live in the town of Villanueva de Gállego itself receive double the amount set for their income bracket. The money is transferred by bank transfer to the account you provided when you enrolled.

Who can apply

• University: You are in your 2025–26 academic year on an official Bachelor’s (Grado) or Master’s degree programme at San Jorge University.
• Where you live: You have been officially registered (empadronado) in Villanueva de Gállego or a municipality in the Bajo Gállego region (San Mateo de Gállego, Zuera or Ontinar del Salz) for at least 5 consecutive years up to the date of your application. Or one of your parents has been registered there for at least 15 years.
• Family income: Your household’s total taxable income (tax return 2024) is no more than 50,000 EUR.
• Grades: Your grade point average is at least 6.00 out of 10. For Bachelor’s students, this is your grade point average after the first semester. For Master’s students, it is the grade point average of the academic achievements that enable you to enrol.
• Fees paid: Your enrolment fees are up to date.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities welcome.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the USJ scholarship portal. The deadline for applications for the 2025–26 round is 28 February 2026. Decisions will be made in the second semester and communicated to you individually by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very restrictive: you must live in a small area near Zaragoza and be studying at a specific university, so very few people apply for it. If you meet the residence requirement, do not exceed the income limit and can demonstrate a grade point average of 6.00, your chances are good. As the scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted, it is advisable to apply early and clearly outline your circumstances.
