ICIQ Summer Fellowship

You will receive a paid research internship: up to 900 EUR per month (30 EUR per day) for a stay of up to 3 months. A fellowship is a funded research placement. You will work at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) in Tarragona, Spain, on a specific research project within one of the institute’s chemistry groups. A PhD student or postdoctoral researcher will provide you with individual supervision. You will also take part in ICIQ seminars and conferences. At the end of your stay, you will submit a short report and present your findings. The ICIQ funds the programme and awards between approximately 9 and 14 fellowships each year.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a student on an undergraduate degree programme (Bachelor’s degree). Students on postgraduate degree programmes are not eligible to apply.
• Study progress: You are in your 3 academic year or in your final year, or you have earned at least 50% of your credit points by the start of the scholarship.
• Field of study: You are studying chemistry, physics, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related subject.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Non-EU citizens may need a student visa and their own health insurance. EU citizens will need the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

How to apply

You should apply online via the ICIQ careers portal and indicate your preferred research groups. The deadline for applications is 22 March. The ICIQ will select the scholarship holders.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is highly selective: only students of chemistry and closely related disciplines are eligible, and each year only a handful of places are available within a fixed list of research groups. As a result, the pool of applicants is smaller than for broad-based, open scholarships. If you are in your 3th or final year of study, have good grades and a clear interest in one of the listed groups, your chances are good. Tailor your application to specific projects and apply early.
