European Commission - Erasmus Mobility Grants for Students

Benefit

An Erasmus+ mobility grant pays EUR 500 per month (the rate varies by destination country) during your time abroad, plus a one-off travel allowance ranging from around EUR 28 for short distances to EUR 1,735 for destinations over 8,000 km away. Stays run from 2 to 12 months; doctoral students can also do shorter stays of 5 to 30 days. You can take several stays within one degree cycle, as long as the total does not exceed 12 months (or 24 months for single long-cycle programmes such as medicine or architecture). Your host university cannot charge you tuition, registration, exam or library fees. Students with disabilities, those from outermost regions, and students with fewer economic opportunities can apply for additional financial support. The grant comes from the European Commission under Erasmus+ Key Action 1.

Eligibility

• Your institution: You are enrolled at a university or higher-education institution that holds a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and participates in Erasmus+.
• Country you study in: Your institution must be in an Erasmus+ programme country: all EU member states, plus Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey and Switzerland, among others. Check whether your country is listed.
• Level of study: Open to short-cycle, Bachelor, Master and doctoral students.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you study at a programme-country institution.
• Where you go: You must go to a partner institution abroad. Exchanges are mainly between programme countries; some exchanges to or from countries outside this group are also possible.
• Degree recognition: The period abroad must count towards your degree and be formally recognised by your home institution before you leave.

How to apply

Apply through your own university's international or Erasmus office, not directly to the EU. Each university sets its own internal deadline, so contact your office well in advance of your planned departure. If selected, you agree a learning agreement with both your home and host institution before you go, confirming which courses will be recognised on your return.
