Adlerbert scholarship at the University of Gothenburg

You will receive a one-off payment of 15,000 SEK (about 1,330 EUR) for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or 20,000 SEK (about 1,770 EUR) as a PhD student. The amount covers one of two things: a study-related trip or a contribution towards your living costs whilst you are studying. You may select only one purpose per award round. Applications for travel are given priority, with travel abroad taking precedence over travel within Sweden. Throughout your studies, you may receive this funding twice as a Bachelor’s or Master’s student and twice as a doctoral student, i.e. a maximum of four times in total. The scholarships are funded by a group of foundations established by the benefactor Axel Adler and are awarded by the University’s Scholarship Committee.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
• Credits so far: As a Bachelor’s or Master’s student, you have already earned at least 30 credit points at this university.
• Current enrolment: You must be enrolled for at least 30 credit points during the funding year (1 July to 30 June). PhD students must be enrolled and active as PhD candidates during this period.
• Doctoral limit: As a PhD student, you can only apply for the travel allowance, not the living expenses allowance.
• Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply, and there is no means test.

How to apply

Online applications must be submitted via the university’s system between 24 August and 14 September. To apply for a travel grant, please provide your destination, travel dates, a brief explanation of why the trip is important for your studies, and a rough estimate of the costs. No justification is required for the living expenses grant. Late applications will be rejected, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome by email at the end of October.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship competition is open to students of all disciplines and nationalities, meaning that many students in Gothenburg are eligible. The ranking of applicants is based primarily on the number of credits they have already earned at the university. Students who are already at a more advanced stage of their studies and can demonstrate a genuine study trip abroad have the best chances, as travel costs take priority over living expenses. If you have accumulated credits and can clearly describe a relevant trip, your prospects look good.
