Uppsala University tuition-fee scholarships

You will receive your full tuition fees covered for the entire duration of your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at Uppsala University in Sweden. For a Master’s degree, this amounts to 12 or 24 months. Places are limited to a select number of international students who pay tuition fees and are awarded on the basis of academic merit rather than financial need. This scheme comprises several named scholarships, including the ‘Uppsala University Global Scholarship’, the ‘Anders Wall Scholarship’ and the ‘King Carl Gustaf Scholarship’, each of which is aimed at students from different regions. The scholarship does not cover living costs, so you will still need to cover your accommodation and daily expenses yourself.

Who can apply

• Fee status: You are an international student who is required to pay tuition fees. This means that you are from a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
• Programme: You are applying for an on-campus degree programme (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Uppsala or Gotland.
• Admission: You meet the entry requirements and have listed Uppsala University as your first choice on universityadmissions.se.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland are eligible to apply. Some scholarships, which are specified by name, are specifically aimed at certain countries, such as African countries or those affected by conflict.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record. Selection is based on academic merit, whilst your letter of motivation will also be taken into account.
• Living costs: You can prove that you are able to cover your living costs yourself, as required by the Swedish Migration Agency for a residence permit.

How to apply

First, apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme via universityadmissions.se by mid-January and list Uppsala as your first choice. Make a note of the eight-digit application number you are given. You must then submit a separate online scholarship application to Uppsala University during the scholarship application period. This period begins immediately after the application deadline for the degree programme (from 16 January to 2 February for the autumn intake in 2026). The scholarship form asks for your personal details, the scholarships you wish to apply for, your admission number and a personal statement of no more than 350 words. You may apply for several scholarships, but you will only be awarded one.

How realistic are your chances?

Competition is fierce: only around 2% of applicants are awarded a scholarship, and selection is based solely on academic achievement and your personal statement. To stand a real chance, you need outstanding academic results and a personal statement that clearly meets the criteria of the scholarship you have specified. If you apply for a region-specific scholarship for which you are clearly suitable, rather than simply applying for the broadly defined ‘Global Scholarship’, you can narrow down the field of competitors.
