Fleming Scholarship (UCL)

You will receive £4,000 (about 4,600 EUR) as a one-off bonus for commencing a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University College London. The amount will be paid in two instalments: £2,000 (approximately 2,300 EUR) upon enrolment, and a further £2,000 later in the year, provided you achieve a ‘Distinction’ (the highest mark) in your graded modules during the first semester. Five of these scholarships are awarded each year. They are funded by the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at UCL and are named after Sir John Ambrose Fleming, the department’s first head.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are a new student who has been admitted to the department on the basis of your school or university final exam results.
• Field of study: You are starting your degree in Electrical Engineering and Electronics at UCL.
• Fee status: You pay the tuition fees applicable to domestic students or EU citizens. Students who pay the tuition fees applicable to students from third countries are not eligible to apply.
• Grades: You are among the applicants with the highest school or university final grades at the time of admission.
• Prompt acceptance: If two applicants are equally qualified, the scholarship will be awarded to the one who accepted their offer first, without reservation. So be sure to respond to your offer promptly.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. Every new student admitted to the department is automatically considered on the basis of their entrance examination results.

How realistic are your chances?

This is an exclusive, top-tier award. Only five are awarded each year to the students with the highest entry grades amongst the new students on the Electrical Engineering and Electronics degree programme at UCL who pay home or EU tuition fees. You do not need to apply – your grades are the deciding factor – but the bar is set high. If you accept your place unconditionally as early as possible, this may work in your favour in the event of a close decision.
