About this grant / loan
Benefit: what you get
ERSU Messina (the regional student welfare office in Sicily) will cover part of your living costs whilst you are studying at the University of Messina during the academic year 2026/2027. The exact amount of the monthly grant depends on your income bracket and your housing situation. In addition to the grant, you will be provided with a free place in a student hall of residence and access to subsidised meals in the canteen. If you complete your studies on time, you will also be entitled to a one-off graduation bonus.
Eligibility
- University: You are enrolled at the University of Messina or another institution within the ERSU Messina catchment area for 2026/2027, or you intend to enrol there.
- Degree level: You are studying on a three-year Bachelor’s degree programme, a two-year Master’s degree programme, a combined Bachelor’s/Master’s degree programme, an unpaid PhD programme, an unpaid specialisation programme, or a degree programme in the field of music or art (AFAM).
- Subject: All fields of study.
- Nationality: Italian and international students, including those from countries outside the EU.
- Financial need: Your ISEE score (Italian means-tested income assessment) must not exceed 22,500 euros, and your ISPE score (a more comprehensive measure of assets) must not exceed 53,000 euros. Your ISEE certificate for higher education grants must be valid and complete, and must not contain any gaps.
- Academic progress: First-year students are assessed at the end of the academic year. From the second year of study onwards, you must have earned a minimum number of ECTS credits by 10 August 2026. Students with a disability or a recognised learning difficulty (DSA) require 40% fewer credits.
- Reserved places: Separate admission quotas apply to students with a severe disability (degree of disability of at least 66%), international students from very low-income countries or with refugee status, orphans of victims of workplace accidents, and various other specific groups.
- Not compatible with: Other public or private scholarships or paid work at the university for the same academic year – with minor exceptions for private tuition.
How to apply
Apply online to studenti.ersumessina.it between 1 July and 18 August 2026 at 14:00. You’ll need to fill in a form, verify your identity and upload the required documents. There will be no interview.
How realistic are your chances?
Eligibility for funding is tied to a specific university, a fixed income ceiling and a minimum number of credit points, so the pool of applicants is naturally limited to those students who meet all three conditions. If your ISEE score is well below the upper limit, your number of credit points is well above the minimum, and you belong to one of the reserved categories, your prospects are good. Late applications will not be accepted; you should therefore apply before the deadline in August.
