Becas Excelencia Juventud Exterior (BEME)

You get a one-off grant of 8,000 to 12,500 EUR to study a master's degree at a public university in Galicia (northwest Spain) in the 2026/27 academic year. The exact amount depends on how long your master's lasts and where you live now. For a one-year master's (60 to 72 ECTS credits) you get 8,000 EUR if you live in Europe or 8,500 EUR outside Europe. For a longer master's (90 credits over two years) you get 11,750 EUR in Europe or 12,500 EUR outside. The money covers your tuition, your trip to Galicia, and your accommodation and living costs there. It is paid in instalments across the study period. There are 250 grants, plus a waiting list. The regional government of Galicia (Xunta de Galicia) runs the programme to help young Galicians abroad study a master's back in Galicia.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You already hold a completed university degree (bachelor's, licenciatura, engineering, architecture or equivalent) that lets you enrol in a master's.
• Where you study: You enrol full time in one of the offered master's programmes at the University of Vigo, A Coruña or Santiago de Compostela. It must be at least 60 ECTS credits, on-site or blended.
• Field of study: Open across five areas: arts and humanities, sciences, health sciences, social and legal sciences, and engineering and architecture (98 master's programmes in total).
• Nationality: You are a Spanish citizen.
• Where you live: You live outside Spain and have done so for at least the two years right before you apply.
• Link to Galicia: You were born in Galicia, or lived there for 5 continuous years as a Spanish citizen before emigrating, or descend from someone born in Galicia (as their child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and so on).
• Age: You are under 40 when you apply.
• No double funding: You do not receive any other public grant for the same master's studies.

How to apply

You apply online through the Galician grants platform by 30 April 2026 at 23:59 (mainland Spain time). Separately, you apply for admission and enrolment directly at the university whose master's you want, following that university's own deadlines. The government scores all applications. The 250 highest-scoring applicants who then prove they are enrolled get the grant, with up to 200 more on a waiting list.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. You must be a Spanish citizen with a proven link to Galicia, living abroad for at least two years, and willing to move to Galicia for a master's. That keeps the applicant pool much smaller than for open scholarships. With 250 grants and a large waiting list, prospects are good for a well-matched applicant with strong grades who applies before the deadline. Note that this round closed on 30 April 2026 and its beneficiaries are already published, so watch for the next annual call.
