About this scholarship
What you get
You get a 10% discount on your postgraduate tuition fees at the University of Edinburgh. It applies only to the part of the fee you pay yourself, known as the self-funding element. It does not reduce any part covered by another scholarship, a funding body, your employer or a company. A postgraduate tuition fee loan from Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) or Student Finance Northern Ireland still counts as self-funded, so the 10% applies to it. The discount covers tuition only, not extra programme or research costs. You can use it again for a later eligible programme, for example a master's first and then a research degree.
Who can apply
- Your degree from Edinburgh: You have completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Edinburgh.
- What you study next: You are taking a postgraduate degree at Edinburgh, such as a master's, PhD or another research programme.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply, both home and overseas students.
- Excluded courses: Some programmes do not qualify. These are mostly ones where the fee is set with an outside body or taught jointly with another institution, for example several Economics, Education, Law, Engineering and Informatics courses. Postgraduate Development and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses are also excluded. Check the exclusion list for your exact programme before applying.
How to apply
Fill in the online form on the university's website. You need a separate application for each postgraduate programme you take. There is no deadline, but apply before your studies start so your tuition invoice is correct from the beginning.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a competitive award. There is no selection round and no fixed number of places. You get the 10% discount if you graduated with a bachelor's degree from Edinburgh, enrol on a postgraduate programme that is not on the exclusion list, and pay part of the fee yourself. Just apply early and confirm your programme is eligible.
