What the scholarship gives you

You get a 10,000 GBP (about 11,700 EUR) discount on your tuition fees at the University of Southampton. If you study for a bachelor's degree, you get 10,000 GBP off each year, except in a year you spend studying abroad or on a work placement. If you study for a master's degree, you get 10,000 GBP off in your first year. The university awards 40 of these each year: 15 for bachelor's students and 25 for master's students.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are starting a bachelor's or a taught master's degree.
• Field of study: Your subject is in arts and humanities.
• University: You already have an offer to study at the University of Southampton.
• Nationality: You are an international student who pays the overseas tuition fee, not the UK home fee.
• Grades: Your results beat the normal entry requirement for your course. For example, if a bachelor's course asks for A-level grades ABB, you need at least AAB or the equivalent. If a master's course asks for a 2:1 degree, you need a First Class degree.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is limited to overseas-fee students in arts and humanities, and only 40 places exist across all courses. That makes the field narrower than an open scholarship, but still competitive. The deciding factor is grades that clearly beat your course's entry requirement, not just meet them. If you hold an offer and comfortably exceed the required grades, your prospects are solid.
