About this scholarship

Franco-Thai Excellence Scholarship

You get a monthly allowance of up to 860 EUR for a Master's degree or up to 1,770 EUR for a PhD, to study in France. A Master's grant runs for 10 to 24 months (usually one or two years). A PhD grant runs for 36 months (three years). On top of the money you get a return flight to France, health cover, help finding student housing, waived visa fees, a French language course at the Alliance Française in Bangkok, and support from Campus France in Paris. The scholarship comes from the Embassy of France in Thailand to build stronger ties between the two countries. There is also a health-cover-only version if another funder already pays your monthly living costs. The scholarship does not cover tuition fees, but some French public universities waive these for government scholars.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Thai national.
  • Age: You are under 35 on 1 September 2026.
  • Degree: You are starting a Master's degree or a PhD in France. You can apply while still in your final year of a Bachelor's (for a Master) or a Master's (for a PhD). Exchange programmes and training courses do not count.
  • Where you study: You will study at a university or higher-education institution in France.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Grades: You have a strong academic record; selection is competitive.

How to apply

You apply online only, through the Franco-Thai Scholarship platform, by 19 February 2026. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in mid-March. Final results are published in early August 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

The programme receives around 200 applications a year and awards only a small number of grants, so it is genuinely competitive. Your chances improve if you already have firm contacts with a French supervisor or university and good French or English. For PhD applicants, joint supervision plus extra funding is a plus the committee favours. Since it is open to any Thai student under 35 in any field, a clear, well-prepared study plan is what makes the difference.
