About this scholarship

What you get

As an EU student at the University of Nottingham with UK residence status, you can access UK government student finance and a top-up bursary from the university. The state finance covers your fees and living costs. The university adds a Core Bursary of about 1,600 EUR per year (GBP 1,400) that you never repay, if your household income is low. For 2026/27 a full-time undergraduate can borrow up to about 11,200 EUR (GBP 9,790) as a Tuition Fee Loan. On top comes a Maintenance Loan for living costs of roughly 5,700 to 12,400 EUR (GBP 5,048 to GBP 10,830) per year if you live away from home. Your household income sets the exact amount. The loans come from Student Finance England. The Core Bursary comes from the university and you do not pay it back.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are an EU national, or a family member of one, studying at the University of Nottingham.
  • UK residence status: You hold EU Settled Status, or Pre-Settled Status with three years lived in the UK, Gibraltar, the EEA or Switzerland (not mainly for study). Irish nationals can apply for the fee loan without settled status.
  • Level: You are a full-time undergraduate studying your first degree. PGCE, Graduate Entry Nursing and Graduate Entry Medicine also count for the bursary.
  • Field of study: All subjects.
  • For the full loan package and Core Bursary: You have Settled Status, which gives you "Home" fee status and access to the Maintenance Loan.
  • Financial need (Core Bursary only): Your household income is between 0 and about 40,000 EUR (GBP 0 to GBP 35,000), as assessed by Student Finance.

How to apply

You apply for the loans online through Student Finance England. Applications open in late February or early March, and the recommended deadline for 2026/27 is 15 May 2026. You do not need a confirmed place to apply. The Core Bursary needs no separate application: the university checks your eligibility automatically from your Student Finance assessment.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive prize but an entitlement. If you are an EU student at Nottingham with the right UK residence status, the loans and the means-tested bursary are yours to claim once you qualify. Your prospects come down to meeting the residence and income rules, not to beating other applicants. Note that a new funding system, the Lifelong Learning Entitlement, is expected for courses starting from January 2027, so terms may change.
