About this scholarship

What you get

Birmingham City University (BCU) cuts your tuition fees if you are an international student starting in 2026. On a full-time Bachelor's degree, you get a guaranteed discount of about 5,700 EUR (£5,000): £3,000 off your first-year fees and £2,000 off your second year. On a full-time taught Master's, you get a one-off discount of about 3,400 EUR (£3,000). The money is not paid to you. It comes straight off your tuition fee bill. Only one BCU scholarship can apply at a time. If you qualify for more than one, you automatically get the larger.

Who can apply

  • Fee status: You are an international (non-UK, non-EU) student who pays the "overseas" tuition fee and funds your studies yourself.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply. There is no restriction to specific home countries.
  • Level and course: You have a confirmed place on an eligible full-time Bachelor's degree (starting January or September 2026) or a full-time taught Master's degree (2026 intake).
  • New to BCU: You are joining BCU for the first time. You cannot claim it if you are moving up from a BCU or BCUIC foundation or Pre-Master's programme.
  • No grade requirement: There is no academic minimum. The discount is guaranteed for everyone who meets the conditions.
  • Which courses do not count: Part-time, online or distance-learning courses, short courses, apprenticeships, foundation and sub-degree courses, research degrees (MRes, PhD, EdD), PGCE, and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire acting and music courses.

How to apply

There is no separate application and no deadline. You simply apply to study at BCU. If you are offered a place on an eligible course, the discount appears in your offer letter and comes off your fee bill after you enrol. You still need to pay 50% of your full tuition fee before BCU issues your CAS, the document you need for your student visa.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive award. It is a guaranteed fee discount for every self-funding international student on an eligible course, with no grades or extra forms. If you get an offer for a qualifying full-time Bachelor's or taught Master's and enrol in 2026, you receive it automatically. The only way to miss out is to be on an excluded course or to already be progressing from a BCU foundation year.
