Alumni Reward (University of Sheffield)

You get a discount on your postgraduate tuition fees at the University of Sheffield if you already studied there. This is a fee reduction from the university itself, not a monthly payment. For September 2026 entry, the size depends on what you studied before and what you start now:

• Former undergraduate or Study Abroad/Erasmus student starting a taught master's (PGT): 20% off your fees, up to 2,500 GBP (about 2,900 EUR).
• Former undergraduate or Study Abroad/Erasmus student starting a research programme (PhD/PGR): 10% off your fees, up to 1,500 GBP (about 1,750 EUR).
• Former postgraduate student at Sheffield starting a new postgraduate course: 10% off your fees, up to 1,500 GBP (about 1,750 EUR).

The discount applies once per programme. On a two-year taught master's, it can also apply in the second year if you hold a Sheffield Postgraduate Scholarship at the same time.

Who can apply

• Past studies: You graduated from the University of Sheffield, or took a Study Abroad/Erasmus programme there.
• New course: You are starting a new postgraduate course at Sheffield, such as a master's, PG diploma, PG certificate or PhD. Part-time and distance learning count.
• Fee status: Both UK (home) and international students can get the discount.
• Medicine: If you study Medicine at Sheffield and intercalate onto a postgraduate course, you can apply too.
• Not fully sponsored: You do not qualify if a third party pays your fees in full.
• No stacking: You cannot combine it with other Sheffield scholarships. Some courses are excluded too, for example integrated degrees (like MEng), PGCE and pre-registration healthcare programmes.

How to apply

How you apply depends on your case. If you are a home student who only studied as an undergraduate at Sheffield, you do not fill in a form. During online pre-registration in August or September, tick the 'UG at Sheffield' box and enter your old registration number. All other cases (home students with past postgraduate study, and all international students) complete the online Alumni Discount form after receiving an offer. Apply before or during your first year, as there are no backdated discounts. Eligibility is checked automatically with no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive scholarship. If you previously studied at Sheffield and start an eligible new postgraduate course without full third-party sponsorship, the discount is applied automatically once your record is confirmed. The main thing that trips people up is missing the step during enrolment, so make sure you tick the box or submit the form on time.
