About this scholarship

DUO-Thailand Fellowship

You will receive 800 EUR per month for up to 4 months, i.e. a maximum of 3,200 euros, for one semester at a university in Thailand. There are no tuition fees at the Thai university, and the credits you earn will count towards your degree in your home country. You can spend the money on whatever you need, such as flights, rent or living costs. You will receive the amount as a one-off payment upon your arrival in Thailand.

The Thai Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) funds the scholarship for a study period abroad. It forms part of ASEM-DUO, an exchange programme between Europe and Asia. This is a partner exchange: whilst you are studying in Thailand, a Thai student will be coming to your university at the same time.

Please note: Thailand has not funded any new funding rounds since the 2021 call for proposals, as no budget has been approved. Please check whether a call for proposals is currently open before making any plans.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a national of an EU country, Norway, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.
  • University: You are enrolled at an accredited higher education institution in one of these countries. Your institution has signed a cooperation agreement with a Thai higher education institution or is in the process of doing so.
  • Level: You are studying for a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree.
  • Grades: As a Bachelor’s student, at least 70% of your marks on the European ECTS scale must be a ‘C’ or higher (where ‘A’ is the highest mark). As a Master’s student, at least 70% must be a ‘B’ or higher.
  • Exchange partner: A Thai student is being put forward for a study placement at your university whilst you are in Thailand.
  • Field of study: All subjects can apply. Fields such as alternative energy, biotechnology, food science, health sciences, IT, logistics, engineering, electronics, robotics, and tourism and hospitality are preferred.
  • Other funding: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship and have never previously received a DUO Thailand scholarship.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via your university’s International Office, not directly. The Thai partner university will then jointly nominate you and your Thai exchange partner as a pair to the Ministry. Each Thai university may nominate a maximum of 3 pairs per round.
