About this scholarship

Traineeship at the General Directorate for Cooperation with the State and the European Union

You will receive 900 EUR per month, paid in 12 instalments (10,800 EUR gross per year), whilst undertaking a paid placement in the field of European Union politics and law in Madrid. The placement lasts for up to 2 years and cannot be extended. The amount already covers your own social security contributions. The scholarship is provided by the Comunidad de Madrid, the regional government of the Madrid region in Spain, which uses it to enable young university graduates to gain practical experience in EU affairs. In the current round, 3 internship places are being offered.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You hold a university degree (Grado, Licenciatura or an equivalent qualification) in one of the listed subject areas, or are about to graduate. These subject areas include Law, Political Science, Economics, Business Administration, History, Sociology, Translation and Interpreting, Communication Studies, Journalism, Advertising, International Relations, and Library and Information Science.
  • Recent graduate: You can submit your application within 4 years of completing your studies, or within 5 years if you have a disability of at least 33 per cent.

  • Nationality: You are a national of an EU Member State or of a country with which the EU has concluded an agreement on the free movement of workers.
  • Where you live: You have been registered (empadronado) in the Madrid region for at least 1 year before the deadline. If you now live abroad, your last registered address was there.
  • English: You have English at C1 level, proven by an official certificate such as Cambridge Advanced, IELTS 7 or higher, or TOEFL iBT 95 or higher.
  • No double funding: You are not in paid employment, do not receive any other funding for the same purpose, and have not received any similar funding in the last 3 years.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the Comunidad de Madrid’s electronic portal (sede.comunidad.madrid). The application deadline is short: approximately 15 working days after the call for applications is published in the region’s Official Gazette (BOCM). Selection is based on a points system. Your academic record counts for the most (up to 70 points), followed by a written test on the European Union (up to 20) and your language skills (up to 10).
