What you get

You will receive a full scholarship to study for a Bachelor’s degree in mainland China, funded by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It covers your full tuition fees, free accommodation at your university, comprehensive health insurance and a living allowance of about 320 EUR per month (CNY 2,500). If you require a preparatory year in Chinese prior to your degree programme, this will also be covered. The funding applies for the entire duration of your studies, up to 84 months. You can study almost any subject, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, economics, law, business administration, education, history, literature, philosophy and fine arts.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a citizen of an EU Member State and not a Chinese national.
• Degree so far: You have completed your school education or will have completed it before you start your degree.
• Age: When applying, you are subject to 25.
• Field of study: Virtually all degree programmes offered by the participating universities are open to you.
• Language: Bachelor’s degree programmes are taught in Chinese, so you will need to have reached HSK level 3, a standardised test to assess your Chinese language skills. Some universities offer English-taught degree programmes instead and accept IELTS or TOEFL results.
• Entrance test: From round 2026/2027 onwards, you must sit the ‘China Scholastic Competency Assessment’ (CSCA), an entrance examination for undergraduate applicants, and submit a valid test result.
• Health: You are in good physical and mental health, as confirmed by a medical certificate.
• University place: You should first contact your chosen university and ask them to issue you with a certificate of preliminary admission. This is compulsory from 2026/2027 onwards.

How to apply

Select a university and a degree programme on campuschina.org, then apply online via the CSC system (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn), specifying the programme category ‘Type A’ and the agency number 00006. The application deadline is 8 February. Please apply early, as Chinese universities go on winter break at the end of January. The entire application process is completed online, and results are usually announced in July or August.

How realistic are your chances?

This full scholarship is open to all EU citizens under the age of 25 in almost all fields of study and therefore attracts a large number of applicants. What narrows down the selection is the effort required: you need Chinese language skills at HSK level 3, the CSCA test and a letter of pre-admission, which you must obtain yourself. If you clearly meet the language and examination requirements and make contact with the university at an early stage, your chances are good, as many applicants fail to clear these hurdles.
