Oriel College Graduate Studentship in Theology

You get about 7,000 EUR per year (£6,000) for up to three years, as long as your academic progress stays satisfactory. The award goes to one doctoral student in Theology at Oriel College, part of the University of Oxford. A DPhil is Oxford's name for a PhD, a research doctorate you complete over several years. You also join Oriel's graduate community (the MCR), with regular social events and the 'Oriel Talks' series where students present their research. The studentship starts in the autumn term (Michaelmas Term) of 2026.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are a DPhil (doctoral) student in Theology at Oriel College, or a new postgraduate who has applied to Oriel.
• Field of study: Theology.
• College: You study at Oriel College. If you are at another Oxford college, you can still apply, but you must move to Oriel if you accept the award.
• Bachelor's degree: You have passed all exams for a Bachelor's degree at a recognised university by 1 October of the academic year after your selection.
• Timing: You are within your first 31 terms since you first enrolled (matriculated) at the university.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. It goes to a single doctoral student in Theology at one Oxford college, so the eligible group is small and few people compete for it. If you are doing or starting a Theology DPhil and are willing to be at Oriel, you clearly fit the profile and your prospects are good. Note that most full-funding awards at Oxford favour students starting a new course, so applying near the start of your studies helps.
