About this scholarship
What the Lady Allen and Linares Rivas Scholarship gives you
During your studies at University of Oxford in the UK, you will receive a total of approximately 16,300 EUR to cover your living costs. This amount will be spread over the entire duration of your studies, which may be up to 36 months. In previous award rounds, this amount ranged from approximately £12,500 to £14,000 per year. This is exclusively a grant towards living costs; tuition fees are not covered. The scholarship is funded by a charitable foundation established by the trustees of Lady Consuelo Maria Allen (née Linares Rivas) and aims to promote cultural exchange between Spain and the UK.
Who can apply
- Where you live: You usually live in Spain.
- Degree level: You are starting a new full-time Master’s degree or a DPhil (as a PhD is known at Oxford), which lasts one, two or three years.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Your previous degree: A Spanish university degree is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- Not eligible: Part-time degree programmes, postgraduate programmes leading to a certificate or diploma, and applicants who already hold a deferred place at university.
How to apply
You do not need to complete a separate scholarship application form. Simply submit the standard application for your degree programme at the University of Oxford, and you will automatically be considered. The application deadlines are in January and depend on your subject: for some departments around 10 January and for others around 24 January.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is very narrowly defined: you must be resident in Spain and have been offered a place at Oxford, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these requirements – particularly if you hold a Spanish university degree – your prospects are quite good. Admission to Oxford is the bigger hurdle. Please note that this scholarship was last advertised for application rounds up to 2016-17 and is no longer listed in Oxford’s current scholarship directory. You should therefore check that it is still available before relying on it.
