Aon / Nuffic - Aon Scholarship

What you get

You receive a one-off 6,000 EUR to help you finish your thesis or dissertation. You can spend it on research, fieldwork, materials or the writing itself. The money comes in three parts: the first in August, the second in November once you prove you are enrolled, and the last in July or August the next year after you get your diploma or final transcript. The scholarship is funded by the insurer Aon and run by Nuffic, the Dutch organisation for international education cooperation.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at VU Amsterdam for the 2025-2026 academic year.
• Study phase: You are writing a thesis or dissertation in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD programme during 2025-2026.
• Field of study: Your programme is on a set list focused on climate, well-being and good governance (ESG). Examples include Environment and Resource Management, Ecology and Evolution, Law, Psychology, Finance, and Transport and Supply Chain Management.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, whether from an EU/EEA country or outside it.
• Financial need: You can show that you need financial support to finish your studies.

How to apply

First send your documents to the VU Amsterdam scholarships team through their online contact form by 10 June 2025. If VU pre-selects you, they send you a link to apply through the Delta online system by 30 June 2025. Nuffic and Aon then review the applications. Selected students are usually notified around the end of July.

How realistic are your chances?

The target group is narrow: you must study one of a fixed list of subjects at VU Amsterdam, be writing your thesis, and show financial need. VU can put forward at most six candidates, and only two of them win an award. That keeps the eligible group small, but the two-per-university cap makes it competitive among those who fit. A clear, well-documented case on both your ESG project and your financial need is what sets applicants apart, so apply as soon as the window opens.
