ESE waiver for excellent non-EEA Bachelor students

You get a tuition fee reduction of 5,000 EUR for one academic year. This is not cash paid to you. The amount is subtracted from the tuition fee you owe. The waiver comes from a fund set up by the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) at Erasmus University Rotterdam. It helps their strongest Bachelor students from outside the EEA. It covers one year at a time, but you can apply again in later years, even if you missed out before.

Who can apply

• Already enrolled: You are a current Bachelor student at ESE. Pre-master and master students cannot apply, and neither can people who have not started yet.
• Nationality: You hold citizenship of a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA), meaning outside the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
• Study year: You apply for Bachelor year 2 or 3, or year 4 if you are currently in year 2.
• Grades: You have an average grade of at least 8.0 across blocks 1, 2 and 3 of the current academic year.
• Financial need: You can show why you need this reduction to keep studying. You also explain how you will cover the rest of your tuition and your living costs (roughly 1,000 to 1,800 EUR per month).
• Enrolment date: You are enrolled by 1 September of the year the waiver is for, and you passed your first-year study advice (BSA) in Bachelor 1.

How to apply

You apply online through the university's Osiris student portal. You submit a motivation letter, a financial statement and a budget plan. The application window runs from 20 to 28 April, with the deadline on 28 April at 23:59. Late or incomplete applications are not considered. You hear the result by email by the end of the first week of June.

How realistic are your chances?

The pool is already narrow: you must be a current ESE Bachelor student from outside the EEA with an 8.0 average, so few people qualify. Even so, ESE says applications each year outnumber the available waivers. Meeting the minimum criteria gives no automatic right to one. A strong grade record plus a clear, well-documented case for financial need is what sets applicants apart.
