About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a one-off payment of 10,000 EUR to help cover the costs of your law degree and to support you as you take your first steps towards a career in law. This is a one-off payment, not a monthly scholarship. The funding comes from Clifford Chance, a major international law firm, and is provided as part of its REACH initiative (Race Equality And Celebrating Heritage). Around three of these grants are awarded each year across continental Europe.
Eligibility
- Field of study: You’re studying law, specialising in business law.
- Study phase: You are in the final two years of your law degree.
- Where you study: Your university is located in Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium or Luxembourg.
- Background: You come from a diverse cultural or socio-economic background. It is an advantage if you are the first person in your family to go to university, but this is not a requirement.
- Grades: You have achieved good academic results.
- Career plan: You’d like to work for an international law firm.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
How to apply
You can apply online via Clifford Chance’s careers portal. Please submit your academic qualifications, a covering letter and details of your career history. Clifford Chance will shortlist the applicants and announce the successful candidates in around April.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is very narrowly defined: only law students in their final two years of study who are studying business law in one of the six countries mentioned and who come from a diverse background are eligible. Only around three scholarship recipients are selected each year. The pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. So if you clearly meet these criteria – particularly as a first-generation student – you have a genuine chance. However, the one-off, substantial payment and the small number of scholarships mean competition is fierce, which is why a compelling, well-substantiated application is crucial.
