Benefit

You get a one-off payment of 1,500 EUR to help cover an exchange semester or year at a Spanish partner university in the 2026/2027 academic year. The money comes from Banco Santander España and supports your stay in Spain. There are 388 places for the 2026 round. You do not need to be a Santander bank customer to apply.

Eligibility

• Where you go: You do an exchange at one of 23 Spanish partner universities, including the Universidad de Alcalá, UAM Autónoma de Madrid, UPM Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad de Deusto and Universidad de Zaragoza.
• Nationality: Students from any country can apply.
• Level: You are enrolled in a degree at your home university that matches a degree at the Spanish host.
• Progress: You have passed at least one full year's worth of credits.
• Exchange place: Your home university has selected you for a stay in Spain under an existing exchange agreement. You may apply before this is confirmed, but the confirmation must reach you before the deadline.
• Grades: You submit your grade average from the previous academic year, or your university-entrance grade if this is your first year. The host university picks winners on academic results.
• Priority: A university may give preference to students with a recognised disability of 33% or more, or use its own extra criteria.

How to apply

Apply free online through the Santander Open Academy platform. Register, complete your profile and submit your application. The window runs from 1 April 2026 to 15 September 2026 (23:59 GMT+2). Your chosen Spanish host university reviews applications and selects winners by 30 October 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

With 388 places and no bank-customer condition, this is more accessible than many single-award scholarships. But it only works if your home university has already picked you for an exchange to a participating Spanish host. If you have that place and solid grades from the previous year, your prospects are good. Apply early and get your exchange confirmed before the deadline.
